In Celtic cultures, smoky quartz — the national gem of Scotland — was sacred to the Druids, who believed it to represent the dark power of the Earth gods and goddesses. Smoky quartz was especially popular during the Victorian era in Britain. It often formed part of mourning jewellery, which itself became fashionable when Queen Victoria took to wearing mourning jewellery after the death of her husband, Prince Albert.

With a deep, chocolatey, smoky hue, this faceted cabochon is set in sterling silver on a patterned sterling silver ring band.

About Seadragon Silver

I was born in the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac, and I love creating beautiful jewellery using seaglass, most of which we find along the beautiful beaches of the North Norfolk coast here in England. Some of it comes from much further afield, thanks to friends who send me 'mermaid mail' from as far away as Japan, Tasmania and the United States.

I'm proud of every piece I make, and I hope you enjoy wearing my jewellery as much as I love making it.
